SEATTLE, WA June 11, 2021 – The annual Business of Pride event, hosted by the Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) in partnership with the Greater Seattle Business Alliance (GSBA), has named Angie Mykel, Keller Williams Greater Seattle CEO and General Manager, as a ‘2021 Outstanding Voices of Pride’ honoree. This recognition takes place during Pride Month, celebrating 11 business leaders who have used their voices and platforms to enrich the conversation around LGBTQ rights as they actively initiate change.
Mykel has long since been an activist, particularly in the real estate industry which continues to have disparities in providing accessibility for LGBTQ communities. As part of the Keller Williams Rainbow Network (KWRN), Mykel participates in this international group of LGBTQ associates, staff and leaders, which takes Pride in the company mission: to build careers worth having, businesses worth owning, lives worth living, experiences worth giving, and legacies worth leaving. KWRN celebrates unique culture with a commitment to build diversity.
“For me, it’s a matter of representation and the opportunity to be seen,” said Mykel. “We have a lot of brokers in our community that are not seen, or there is not a fair representation in their office spaces. Their voices are not heard, or maybe they’re only heard for 30 days of the year. I just want to make sure that the door is always open to our LGBTQIA associates in the Puget Sound area to know that Keller Williams is a safe space for you, and you are always welcome here.”
Honorees were celebrated in a virtual reception hosted by PSBJ on June 10, 2021. Additional recipients include Constance von Muehlen, Executive Vice President and COO of Alaska Airlines, Dr. Marvi Matos Rodriguez, Director of Engineering in Design Practices at The Boeing Company, and John Farrey, Label Relations Manager of Amazon Music, to name a few.
“I feel like I’ve been invited to a party where I really shouldn’t be”, laughed Mykel. “The caliber of honorees is just incredible. But I’m not going anywhere.”
