Glossary

Foreclosure: A legal process in which a lender attempts to recover the balance of a loan from a borrower who has stopped making payments to the lender by forcing the sale of the asset used as the collateral for the loan.

Real estate owned (REO): Property owned by a lender, such as a bank, that has not been successfully sold at a foreclosure auction.

Short sale: Refers to the fact that the home is being sold for less than the balance remaining on the mortgage.
